Learn Why Annie Chose Eric Fisher Academy for Esthetician School

Before realizing her dream of becoming an esthetician, Annie Sauer was self-employed, juggling full-time work as a nanny, while making and selling art on the side. She knew she needed a change, so she began researching her options.

What she found – esthetics – quickly became her passion. As Annie prepares to graduate with a certificate in Esthetics and to take her Board exams, we sat down with her to talk about why she chose Eric Fisher Academy in Wichita, Kansas, and what she’s most looking forward to as she sets off in her new, empowering career.

Why did you choose Eric Fisher Academy for esthetician school?

I had heard a lot of great things about the school, and when I came for my visit everyone I encountered was very friendly and welcoming. When the Admissions Team took me on my tour, I got butterflies in my stomach after seeing the student spa. I knew this career was the perfect fit for me.

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

I like to think I live a healthy lifestyle and take proper care of myself, including my skin. I loved doing research about different skin care lines to see what the best was. I wanted to learn more about skin and how to take care of it.

I started doing research about my interests and how they related to career choices, when I found esthetics and instantly fell in love. It was everything I was passionate about built into a career, so I made an appointment to visit EFA right away because I knew that’s what I wanted to go to school for.

What do you want to do after you graduate?

I would love to have my own space and work for myself. I am trying to decide between doing that, or working in a spa for a while to gain more experience and knowledge from my peers. Either way, I will still be able to do what I love each day and help others to see their true beauty and feel like their best self.

What surprised you most about attending an esthetician school near you?

I knew I would be learning more in-depth information about the skin, but I didn’t know I would learn so much about the entire anatomy of the human body! It’s important as an esthetician to know how and why our body functions because it can affect the skin care treatments we choose for our clients.

What advice would you give an incoming student at EFA?

Enjoy each step of this journey, and talk to your classmates and instructors and get to know them! My class is full of amazing women that I am so happy to have met and created friendships with that I will have forever. Stick together during the ups and downs and support one another.

Also, invite as many friends and family as you can to come see you when you hit the spa floor, and ask them to tell their friends to come see you as well! Staying busy with clients gives you a feel to how you will be in the working world. Make genuine connections with each client you get, because they will follow you when you graduate, and you will have returning clients for life!

What was your favorite lesson you learned here at EFA?

Whenever I get this question I don’t really know what my answer is because I genuinely loved learning everything. I think one of my favorites was learning about Ayurveda, chakras, and crystal healing. I know when I’m working on my own, I want to use those practices with my clients.

What is it like to attend classes at EFA on a daily basis? How do you feel? What do you do?

During your first phase, it’s constant learning and new information. It can be overwhelming at first, but take a deep breath, and you will get through it. You not only are learning this information, but you get the chance to practice it on each other. From facials to waxing, you get to experience it all. I think that’s where you decide what it is you love doing the most and can determine what services you want to offer in the future.

The second phase, you get to work on clients twice a week and are in class for three days. It can be nerve-racking that first week on clients, but it’s so exciting.

Then, in the last phase, you are only in class one day and get to be with clients the other four days! I really enjoyed both class days and days on the floor. It’s nice to be “working” while also counting on one day to be able to have a break, but you also get to learn new things. My instructors JJ, Amy, and Jaime all made each day worth it. They all offered the best advice and truly made my experience wonderful.

What do you like about becoming an esthetician?

I love being able to provide services that enable clients to be able to come see me and completely relax and feel at ease. I want my clients to leave feeling rejuvenated and beautiful. I want to make them feel good about themselves, because that’s the least I can do!

What has been your favorite service to perform while in school?

Facials! I love giving custom skin treatments, because I am able to customize each product to the needs of each client, but also because it is one of the most relaxing services we offer. I really enjoy giving facial massage and giving the client an opportunity to indulge and relieve tension from their busy day. I love making others feel safe and comfortable, so giving someone a relaxing facial and having them leave with a smile on their face is what makes this career so rewarding.
