Learn to Create the Look in Cosmetology School

There are far more cosmetology careers than a hair stylist! Did you know that with a cosmetology education, you can become a professional makeup artist, too? If you have a passion for makeup, then that’s a job you’ll probably love.

This summer, use that same dedication to create gorgeous, on-trend looks so dramatic that masks don’t detract from them. Let’s take a look at the hottest trends as summer heats up.

Stained Lips

Wearing a mask while out in public has been hard on folks who love to show off a bold lip. Not only are their lips hidden, but there’s a high risk of transference onto the inside of the mask.

Using a durable lip stain lessens the chance of transfer, but still serves a daring look when you take the mask off. Pucker up!

Dramatic Eyes

That darn mask is always interfering with makeup looks! That’s why dramatic eyes, in general, will continue to trend throughout the summer. We’re talking bold colors, big outlines, smoky eye, and anything else you can think of. If you can’t play up the drama anywhere else, you might as well go big on your eyes!

To keep the summer heat from melting off your eye shadow, be sure to prime your eyelids and use a setting product. You’ll look flawless hours after you create the look.

Colorful Mascara and Eye Shadow

We know, we already said a dramatic eye is going to be popular, but it’s time to get specific.

Grab a colorful mascara and matching eyeliner and get to work. Unexpected shades, like blue, are trending for 2021. Be sure to choose a color that coordinates with your ‘fit and your skin tone. Apply the colorful mascara to your top and bottom lashes, then use the matching liner to outline around them. The brightness sets off your eyes from the rest of your face. The goal is subtlety for this look; it’s over-the-top in an understated way.

Also hot for summer is purple eyeshadow. Depending on the shade of purple you choose, you could create a vibrant look, or a toned-down, classic smokey eye. It’s so versatile, and anyone can wear it!

Eyeliner Trends

Think back to the 90s when eyeliner pulled all the focus straight to your peepers. (And if you weren’t born yet, look to celebs like Bella Hadid, who’s recently been rocking tight-line eyeliner at awards shows.)

The 1990s eyeliner style was all about cutting it close to the waterline. You’ll want to use a waterproof liner with an ultra-fine tip to keep it from running or smudging, outlining from the inside corner to the outside, both top and bottom in roughly the same thickness. This look can be dressed up (think date night) or down (flannel and Doc Martens) and look equally awesome in both settings.

Hang onto that smudge-proof eyeliner, because you’ll need it again to create graphic lines on your eyelids for the next trending look. Draw on a classic cat eye, negative space liner, or any other artistic idea you can think of. It’s a striking look that’ll turn heads!

Dewy, Glowing Skin

A fresh-faced makeup look will continue rising to popularity this summer. The goal is a “lit from within glow” that some people are calling “dolphin skin,” named after the almost reflective quality dolphin skin has.

To achieve the look, you’ll need a dewy highlight, but also a really nourishing moisturizer. This natural look is fresh for summer, the perfect season to rock it.
