"I am really proud of the work you are doing and every time I come here I am humbled! EFA is really about creating lives, teaching skills that will last a lifetime, and careers that students will have forever."
Eric Fisher Academy welcomed back the world-renowned colorist and educator, Jo Blackwell-Preston. She has been in the hair industry for 25 years, both on stage and behind the chair. Jo is a lead portfolio color artist and educator for L'Oreal Professional and is the owner of Dop Dop Salon in New York City.
On Sunday, the Learning Leaders attended a color class, where Jo taught them the latest color techniques. The Learning Leaders enjoyed how Jo kept it real with them and reinforced the motto, "we transform people's hair, we transform their lives!" On Monday, she gave an amazing motivational presentation to the EFA students and staff along with Eric Fisher Salon stylists.
Jo was an inspiration to the students and staff and provided a lot of takeaways and empowerment for their future. She taught EFA students that they must invest in their career as a hair stylist in order to achieve success in the industry, there is no quick and easy 15 minutes of fame! Another great takeway was not to listen to that little negative voice inside our heads, we must follow our hearts! She also gave a great self-visualization speech about "Who do you say I am?" Which stated that our results are given by our behaviors, which are influenced by our mindset and attitude. Our mindset and attitude is a direct result of how we have been conditioned and this depends on our self-concept; ideals, self image, and self esteem. Lastly, she motivated every student and staff member to be a self-governing, independently responsible leader!
Jo also shared career advice from Suze Orman and her book, "Young, Fabulous, and Broke." Check out the clip!
